This gave me goosebumps. Lately Ive been having conversations with friends about how to take the ideas behind unschooling, or child led learning, and translate them into the classroom. I kept hearing, Itll never happen Saira.. And then I read THIS: the classroom is not a place, its an attitude I still have hope. Once we get over our obsession with meaningless assessments that do little beyond convincing parents the education they received 30 years ago is somehow still relevant, we can reshape the role of the teacher into a facilitator who guides students into their passions and turns them loose. Thats the world we already live in. We orient ourselves toward our obsessions - whether sport or history or politics or pop stars - and bury ourselves in websites, communities and social media, sharing and learning everything we can about the things we love. The content might be trivial, but the way were learning now is completely revolutionary. ... HEY! Teacher! Leave those kids alone.. ;)
