This gorgeous textured acrylic painting, entitled EVOLVE, was painted live by Franklin, Tennessee artist Shari Dineen Lacy during a live staged reading by female cancer survivors at an event called My 2nd Act: Survivor Stories From The Stage (survivorssecondact) held in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, August 2, 1014, during the final evening of the National Womens Survivors Convention. The painting was inspired by the stories of the 12 women who read their essay live on stage, while Shari painted on a large (36x48) stretched canvas. In her own words, the artist stated: It was my honor to paint on Saturday. It was a very inspiring night and it also allowed me to pay tribute personally to some very special people in my life. The finished piece is titled EVOLVE. While I was listening to everyone’s stories, that was the resounding theme that kept playing in my head. Each of these survivors has all have evolved into deeper, stronger, more insightful versions of their authentic selves. I was inspired by your stories. You’ll noticed that on the painting, I used a variety of colors, in hopes of representing all of the different cancers. Also, when you look closely, you’ll see various words or phrases smaller and in different spots around the painting. These are all words I heard spoken from the stage and stories. Each one was said by one of the ladies reading at some point. Be Fierce is a phrase that a friend of mine going through treatment currently has garnered strength from and it is a resounding feeling I had when hearing everyone tell their stories. Each of these survivors is fierce and strong and even in weaker moments, their strength and determination come through. Thank you again for allowing me to be involved. I hope this painting is a blessing and that it is able to bring some money to the organization. The painting is gallery wrapped, and 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit the Women Survivors Alliance (womensurvivorsalliance.org), the mission statement of which is to establish a network through which women affected by cancer can find their voice, improve their quality of life and embrace their new normal. Because the end of treatment is not the end of cancer. Local pick-up available and encouraged, or we will work with you on your best, safe shipping option.
