This group should also include or maybe there should be a separate group for BUYERS advice. Of late there have been a lot of posts by people in search of specific horses. As far as requirements for specific colors, heights, bloodlines, age, etc. Even show level. The most important thing they leave out is their budget!! All of us chime in with what we have available that meets the requirement (of course we would as we all want to make a sale). Emails or private messages fly back-and-forth. An enormous amount of time is spent (sometimes days) providing all the information they need to make a decision (and help them in their comparison-shopping) only to find out they have a $500 budget. Just last night I finally posed the budget question first BEFORE I did all the work. Good thing too! Lol So my advice to buyers is state your budget upfront and be considerate of the time involved by the seller to work with you. I would also suggest to the buyers if they know the location of the horse they might be interested in, it wouldnt hurt to have some idea of shipping costs first before inquiring so we dont go through all that work only to find out they cant afford the shipping. As for the buyers responsibility in replying to these types of posts, dont look to be so desperate for a sale that you offer up things that dont even fit the requirements. They are stating the requirements for a reason - they have something specific in mind they want. There really is a mutual responsibility on both sides of buyer and seller to achieve good outcome for both parties. And how many buyers simply disappear after youve worked with them for days? Even going out of your way to work with shippers on their behalf? What happened to the common courtesy of thank you for all your time and here is my decision? They just disappear never to be heard from again. So those are a few reasons there should be a group to advise the inexperienced buyers :)
