This guy is running as a Republican for Congress in California, which is (of course) a long shot, but I liked his position on his page. Here it is, give it a read: MY PHILOSOPHY Much has been made over the past three or four years in the political and cultural zeitgeist regarding the differences where Republicans, Libertarians, the Tea Party and Conservatives collide. So what exactly is a conservative and what does it mean to be a Conservative? Confused? Youre in luck – I just happen to have the answer. Some background: Conservatism is not a political movement, group or party. It is a philosophy, developed from the trial and error of our history of human experience over hundreds and even thousands of years of civilization. It is based on knowledge. Learning what works and what is destructive in the nature of mankind. Contemporary conservatism in America is a fairly simple concept: It promotes liberty, Capitalism and is based on the founding principles in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. If that sounds rigid and stodgy, it is not. There is more than one way to change or amend the Constitution written plainly into the document by the framers, so as to make it a continually up-to-date playbook, with those procedures for modification sufficiently demanding so as not to make it whimsical, however. Specifically, free enterprise, private property and an individuals right to pursue happiness and protect their family and home is central to conservatives. We know that where it has had a chance to be practiced, school choice, low taxes and limited government has always – without exception – allowed the people to flourish, to be productive and responsible members of society. Conservatives are not cafeteria-style Constitutional fans – they are true believers in all the amendments, including the First, Second, Fourth and Tenth. We dont believe in giving up liberty in exchange for security; handing over our guns for our own protection; allowing politicians to choose whats best for our childrens health, wealth and well-being.
