This has been a project a while in the making. Sir Andrew Ward was looking for something a bit unique for his wifes birthday, and commissioned a lyre from me. As she is a veterinary doctor specializing in domestic pets, I designed a modernized entwined cat and dog knotwork motif for the kolrosed soundboard - the coloring was done with Hersheys Special Dark cocoa powder. Flamed maple soundboard on clear hard maple body, Brazilian cherry pegs, nut, and a tailpiece based loosely on the bone object found at Teerns. The bridge is willow and the strap is cotton woven on my mini lyre strap inkle (designed and built specifically for this job). Finished in gunstock oil. Strung in Nylgut. I like the way it turned out, especially as it is a lot more conservative than my last few projects.
