This has been the epitome of an emotional roller coaster week for me. On one hand, I am deeply saddened and hurt at the loss of my Memaw. Every kid has a grandparent that is just truly special and Memaw was mine. She was the kindest, gentlest person who defined selfless joy, seeking first to take care of others before her. Today, I laid Memaw to rest in a very touching funeral that was a celebration of her life of 90 years. Go with God, Memaw. It has been an honor, a privilege and pure gift from God to be your Grandson. One day...I will come to you again. On the other hand, I am filled with tremendous pride and joy as my son achieved his dream of becoming a United States Marine. He graduates from Boot on Friday and I am eager to see him adorn the infamous Eagle, Globe & Anchor that will symbolize the lifetime brotherhood to which he now belongs. Shaun Gognat has grown into a man who will now spend his days working to defend our country and protect its children. For that, I cant say enough about how proud I am of him. Oorah & Semper Fi. This is a week, in which I have the opportunity to be a part as a loving journey comes to an end...while another one begins.
