However, even their explanation would make the ratio 25 to 1, not 50 to 1. Half the people who signed up for Obamacare have simply been transferred over from Medicaid. They are not paying anything. Over one million of those who have signed up have not paid, so they are not enrolled yet. That brings the actual number of paid enrollees closer to 1.4 million. The management consultanting firm at McKinsey & Co. believes a third of employers will drop coverage. That would impact 25 million people, and another 5 million or so should be added because their plans have already been cancelled in the individual-market. The Tea Party group says 30 million will lose coverage and only 1.4 million have signed up. We see their point but they did not note that Medicaid expansion and subsidized exchange plans will help the enrollment numbers. We are not going to claim the ratio is 50 to 1 or 25 to 1. However, a solid case can be made that it is 2 to 1. There is no need to exaggerate. It will be hard for Democrats running for election this fall to defend a law that hurts twice as many people as it helps.
