This info will help you know exactly which country the goods you are buying came from. You may not always have a choice when buying things these days because many items that used to be made in America are now gone because the companies went out of business. Buy American every chance you get. But even when you cannot buy US made goods at least do yourself a favor and look at the barcode on every package. The first 3 numbers will tell you what country it was made in and exported from. Of course you will see China everywhere but it might be interesting to see what other countries are becoming more and more common.
