This is Andrea Fain who plays an embattled Chicago School Board member named "Mrs. Wendell E. Green" in Shades of Mississippi. In Prelude to a Dream she plays a sharecropper from Greenwood Mississippi named "Rovenia Redd" - Mrs. Redd has brings a homemade sign all the way to D.C. that compels a distracted Bayard Rustin to stop his prepared remarks and call out from the podium: "Madame, what on earth are you planning to do with that sign of yours?" He soon finds out...as will you when you see the show. "Redd" is the maiden of my late maternal grandmother. "Rovenia" is the first name of my late paternal grandmother. Both were church going, but Rovenia Tatum transformed the beauty shop she owned for 25 years into a storefront Pentecostal church and appointed herself the pastor (later Bishop, I think). So, "Rovenia Redd" has some of that same fire within her. She tells Bayard: "The Good Lord done brought me all the way from Greenwood, Mississippi. Safe, sound and sanctified! Thank you Jesus!"
