This is SO ridiculous...but isnt funny. How is it that the police here dont know their job? First, we do have OPEN CARRY here in Maine. So, even if it WAS a real gun, it was legal because it was visible! Second, how dumb can somebody be if they cant tell a real gun from a tattoo? Thirdly, the tree worker couldnt say that this man threatened him at all. They said but he was yelling and they thought it could be some sort of a threat. They thought he was yelling something to the effect of doing harm. The police should have asked, did you hear him threaten to shoot you or use his gun? Apparently NOT, so knowing (or SUPPOSE to know) that this is an open carry state, then the police should have said...sorry, there is nothing we can do! And fourthly, with all of the above said, where is the protection of us gun owners, eh? We have rights too...and one of those rights is to not be harassed by the police just because we own guns! And that is what this was. Why? Because there was no CREDIBLE threat here and the man had the right to carry his gun OPENLY so there was NO problem. If the police cant see this, then they dont deserve to be wearing the badge. The only details they needed to know was...was there an actual threat to harm another. No. They knew it was supposedly in view...in the open...so NO Maine State Police Trooper Scott Duff...you did NOT have any reason to respond to the initial report ...and your statement that you had to respond to the initial report as if he DID have a weapon shows the harassment because last time I checked the Constitution and Maine laws...he has the right to have a weapon!!!
