This is a Letter to the Editor that appeared in The Daily Press, and its so true! I withheld the name of the writer for their privacy since whoever might not have read it may want to talk some shit.....if you happen to be one of those people, dont do it on my page! Letter to the Editor, published September 20, 2014 in The Daily Press-Ashland: Walker has none of the traits we need in a leader There are a couple things we have learned about Scott Walker since he has been the governor of Wisconsin…he is never accountable for his actions and the citizens of our state are playing second fiddle to his out-of-state right wing supporters who finance his extremist agenda and his political ambitions. A recent example is the report by the well-respected Legislative Fiscal Bureau who calculated that Walker’s refusal to fully expand the state health care plan for the poor under the federal Affordable Health Care Act will cost Wisconsin taxpayers over $500 million over three-and-one-half years. In addition, over 87,000 more Wisconsinites would be covered by insurance. But of course, consistent with his extremist right wing ideology, Walker has elected to have the taxpayers pick up the tab so he can continue to collect unlimited campaign dollars from wealthy out-of-state donors. A recent release of documents in the John Doe investigation also points to the fact that Gogebic Taconite contributed $700,000 to the Wisconsin Club for Growth, Walker’s choice for funneling campaign dollars into to avoid reporting requirements required by state law. The legislature subsequently passed legislation gutting Wisconsin’s mining law which Walker said he was “thrilled” to sign, and now when questioned about the GTAC contribution, Walker claims he didn’t know about it. He also claimed that he didn’t know anything about a secret email system a few feet from his office door while he was Milwaukee County Administrator, or about the illegal activities of six of his closest aides who were convicted of various offenses. Can any objective person really believe this? Rather than come clean about his knowledge or involvement with these various improprieties Walker has characterized himself as a victim of the John Doe investigations and has whined that he is the most investigated politician in the nation and the subject of a “political witch hunt” even though he has “cooperated” with the investigators. Well his cooperation consists of having established a legal defense fund and reportedly spending over $1 million in legal fees “cooperating” by hiring a battery of defense attorneys. Walker and his campaign have worked to stop the investigation through lawsuits and the additional release of documents is currently tied up in court. Without the release of documents the public would know nothing about the GTAC contribution or of the various contacts that he made nationally directing campaign funds so they would be unable to be tracked and reported as required by state law. The character of this governor can only be judged by his actions that people sometimes are led to forget by the endless attack ads and misinformation being spewed out by his right-wing supporters. The facts speak for themselves. Let’s remember his “drop the bomb” comment to his cabinet officials on the eve of the Act 10 legislation, his “divide and conquer” discussion with a right wing contributor, his discussion with the Koch brother impersonator when he had considered mobilizing “troublemakers” into the protest crowd at the state capitol, his numerous contacts with out-of-state right wing contributors including Karl Rove, his quietly signing a mandatory ultrasound bill late on a Friday afternoon, his patronage appointments to a campaign aide convicted for violation of campaign finance laws, his continued manipulation of jobs numbers to try to prop up his failed campaign promise of 250,000 jobs, his bragging about a balanced budget that is actually a $1.8 billion structural deficit, his refusal to raise the minimum wage, his relentless efforts at voter suppression, his attack on equal rights, his attack on public education, his onerous estate recovery law changes that will hurt the elderly, family farms, and small businesses, and now his claim that he didn’t know anything about the $700,000 contribution by Gogebic Taconite. We expect honesty, integrity, and transparency in our leaders. We need a governor who represents all of the people and does not follow one ideological agenda. Unfortunately Walker has none of these traits and has repeatedly demonstrated that his ideology and political self-interests trump what’s best for the citizens of Wisconsin. As we languish in 33rd place in job creation nationally in this bitterly divided state, Walker and his right wing supporters continue to push out misinformation to the public that we are heading in the right direction. Walker does give credence to what many of our parents told us when we were growing up…you are who you hang around with.
