This is a great article about how alignment issues with your feet, knees, and hips are more than likely causing your back pain. This goes along the lines of the "bad neighinbor" theory. Many people that have "flat feet" will have chronic low back pain. This is due, in simplified terms, to the hip on the side of the flattest foot being lower than the opposite hip. Sometimes physicians may falsely attribute the hip-height discrepancy to limb length variance. Take this simple test that I have used with some clients to find the cause of their back pain: 1. Place two pieces of paper on the floor, side by side. foot. 2. Wet the bottoms of your feet and slightly shake off the excess water. 3. Stand separately on each piece of paper with one foot. 4. Remove your feet from the sheets of paper. 5. Observe the damp marks that your feet left on the paper. If you notice that the marks show little to no arch on either or both feet, it is safe to say that overpronation (flat feet) is contributing to your back pain.
