This is a joke, surely. Singapore must be the only place in this world where registering for primary school becomes a national issue. The 3 month long process is divided into 6 phases, each plastered with confusing conditions, putting parents into stressful situations only to be met with a high possibility of having to ballot into a SCHOOL. Failing which they could face the grim prospect of being thrown into any school selected by the ministry. Some may argue that Im in no position to gripe as Ive taken the quitters route OUT (literally) and even if I stayed the odds are somewhat in my favour as church affiliation plays an important role in getting in as most popular schools ARE Catholic schools,in addition, thanks to my address, Im within close proximity to the most coveted schools in the region ;) Hence apparently, Im in no position to complain(so says the envious ones), but I cant help thinking... What on earth is happening? How has it come to this?? The more I think about it the dimmer it gets because somehow deep down I know this is one of those situations where it can neither be revived nor repaired. straitstimes/premium/forum-letters/story/overhaul-p1-registration-process-20140814
