This is a little something by way of wishing all of you, of whatever denomination, who work so hard to enhance our appreciation of the transcendent by performing the best music possible, a truly holy and happy Christmas. Our house used to wait in eager anticipation, to see whether my dad would get home before the start of this. (He usually didnt, because the office was busy with the end of year accounts, and my mother was so longing for some relief from all the busy-ness .... ) For us, as for many, it marked the start of Christmass .... I had a peaceful lunchtime watching Mass from EWTN and then a programme about the choir school on Harvard Square, which is a Catholic choir school following the English tradition. (The American choirboys looked a little plump in comparison - I cant imagine hamburgers are good for the voice ....... ). Net result: good music and missing my dad (+1989). Those of you who pray for the dead might like to say one for him .....
