This is a reminder, first to myself, then my Muslim brothers and - TopicsExpress

This is a reminder, first to myself, then my Muslim brothers and sisters. Speaking about matters of religion/deen is indeed a serious issue. When we make claims and say things pertaining to religion, we are in essence saying this is what Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) are saying. We will be held accountable for the same. It amazes me how so many, particularly the unqualified, are bold enough to speak on issues of religion with such ease. They readily write articles, post on social media and so forth, and seem to consider themselves as authorities, ignoring what true scholars have said and are saying. I urge myself, then you, to be prepared for the meeting with Allah; what is our answer going to be when we are questioned about statements we made, claiming this is halal or haram or that we evolved from apes or that interest is ok because we live in different times or that offensive jihad no longer exists or....? {Say, My Lord has only forbidden immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed – and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know.} (7:33) Notice how speaking about Allah without knowledge is mentioned alongside shirk. {And do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth, This is lawful and this is unlawful, to invent falsehood about Allah. Indeed, those who invent falsehood about Allah will not succeed. [It is but] a brief enjoyment, and they will have a painful punishment.} (16:116-117) Clearly, it is not to be scoffed at. {Then who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah to mislead the people by [something] other than knowledge? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.} (6:144) It is texts such as these that cause the understanding ones to speak little and to speak with great caution when they do speak. I ask Allah to protect us from speaking about that which we have no knowledge of and from speaking about Him and His deen when we have no knowledge. A further piece of advice, lets be ever so cautious of what we read for some people are gifted with eloquence and can lead us astray by mesmerizing us with their magical speech. Religion is serious business, lets take it that way. {Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.} (73:5) Al-Imam Malik used this ayah as a reminder when someone asked him a (religious) question one day and said, I have an easy question.
