This is a repost but with a new copy of the original image that I discovered. The Old Toll house was on what is now effectively Beancross Road about 100 metres or so south of Earls Gate Roundabout. All travellers had to pay a toll to use the road (which connected Grangemouth to Polmont) to cover the cost of its building (1797) and maintenance. According to Robert Porteous book Grangemouths Modern History, the toll house was still in occupation in the 1930s but I have not discovered any photos of it from this period. The exact location of the toll house is shown on the map. If anyone does have a photograph of the house from this century I would love to see it. This image was actually used as an early Christmas Card in town.
