This is a story told to me at a CPO Dining In for the Navy - TopicsExpress

This is a story told to me at a CPO Dining In for the Navy Birthday in Norfolk several years ago by a retired Master Chief. I forget his rating, but it, combined with his facility for foreign languages had him stationed all over the world during his long career. The one bit of home he and his wife brought with them to each place they lived was roses. He was eventually stationed state-side in San Diego with a nice piece of property with many roses. One he prized was a yellow one that he had planted in the front yard, but no matter what he or his wife did to help it, it just was doing poorly. It seems one day he was home during the week and was looking out the front window with a cuppa joe trying to figure out what to do next when something caught his eye. The neighbor across the street opened his door and shooed out their really big dog, and as the MCPO watched, sure enough the beast ambled across the street and set a bead on the yellow rose bush, then proceeded to hose it down. Satisfied with his results, he continued on down the block and around the corner. Now the MCPO already knew that other neighbors had talked with the owner about that dog and the piles it left behind and it had done no good. This MCPO had an inspiration though, he knew the dog was probably a creature of habit, and probably did that attack on the rose bush about the same time each day, so the next day the MCPO took off. He got some chicken wire and put it all around the rose bush, but not touching the ground. He then got one of his long extension cords , stripped the end off it and attached one end of the bare wires to the chicken wire. The other wire he attached to a long nail he stuck into the ground near the bush. Then, a short time before the dog was expected he wet down the area all around the bush. He then retired to the window over looking the front yard with the plug he had run through the window. Sure enough at the appointed time the door across the street opened, the dog trotted over, and proceeded to wet down the bush. it was then that the MCPO plugged in the extension cored. The MCPO said you could have heard the resulting howl for blocks as it sprang (or was tossed) away from the bush and it continued to howl as it drug it neither regions across the lawn and down the street. The owner came out but did not have a clue what happened. The MCPO and his wife lived there for several more years, and until the day they left that dog would cross the street rather than go near their yard. Side bar, I love dogs, and would probably not do that. But you gotta admit the mental image of that happening is funny.
