This is a true story about Workmans Pontiac wrecker coming out and towing a car off of I-84. It was not one of the usual wrecker drivers, it was one of the of Workmans (the owner) son. He brought the oldest wrecker and hooked up a near brand new car by the bumper, he just used a single hook under the bumper hook. He reeled up the slack on the line and as the weight of the car was transferred to the bumper only, it bent the bumper. He then drove into the lowered median and as the truck went down into the sunken median so did the hoist. The car followed swinging on the end of the hook then the tires lost ground to support them and the bumper caught the ground and dug in which in turn caused the cable to go almost parallel with the ground until it pulled the bumper and car off the ground it had dug into and it came slamming into the back of the wrecker totally wrecking the front end of the car. It wasnt over then, he did the exact same thing going up the other side of the lowered median. By the time this elderly couple got back to town they had a totaled car on their hands. This is a totally true story, Mayberry RFD.
