This is a very good movie covering some facts about how Talibans ideology was funded and empowered by US as they wanted to use it against Soviets. What is missing in this movie is how US influenced Saudis to flood their oil money into Pakistani Madrassas. Normally, a madrassa is a school run by the society for poor students. But, the saudi money was only for those madrassas where the fabricated teachings were to be taught based on this extremist ideology. The goal was to create/recruit so called Mujahideens to be used against Soviets. These funds gave these so called religious scholars ultimate power over whole of the society. And now they decide how the religion should be followed. And the decision is again based on how much funds/power they will get in return.
