This is an old story so Ill tell it the best I can remember - if someone knows the original please correct me: One day a spoiled son of a very rich dad goes into his father and asks for $1000 to buy something. The dad says to his son, Im tired of giving you money, its time you learned to EARN your money, go get a job, earn $500 and Ill match the other $500 you need. So the spoiled rich kid went to his mom and got $500 from her. He went to his dad sitting in his smoking chair by the burning fireplace and handed his dad the $500 saying Okay give me the $1000. His dad took the $500 and threw it into the fireplace. The boy stood there shocked. The father said You didnt EARN the money, go get a job and earn it The boy went away perplexed as to how his father knew he hadnt earned the money. So he went to his granddad, borrowed the $500 and went back to his dad in the same fashion. His dad threw the money into the fireplace and the son stood again in shock as the money burned. The father said You didnt EARN the money, go get a job and earn it. The son borrowed the money from a friend and again his dad threw the money into the fireplace and the son stood in shock as the money burned. The father said You didnt EARN the money, go get a job and earn it Finally the son got a job, he sweated, worked and toiled long hours. Beaten, tired the son again went to the dad sitting by the fireplace and handed him his hard earned $500. The father as usual tossed the $500. This time the son leaped into the fireplace to salvage his hard earned money. We tend to appreciate most what we work the hardest for to earn. Not given. Earned. Its value is intrinsic to us because you cant put a price on the blood, sweat and tears of earning something.
