This is another big long rant. View at your own discretion. Context: Whining rich musician Scott Ian decided to whine in agreement with Gene Simmons whining because they couldnt buy another Lambo today. Boo-hoo. Ill put an image on this post so you can just hit show more if you actually wanna read it. Im getting so sick of all these rich old musicians whose relevance has passed a long time ago (Lookin at you, Gene Simmons) coming around and giving us this whiny, pathetic claptrap nonsense where they cry crocodile tears about how NOBODY IS BUYING MUSIC ANYMORE EVERYONES STEALING WAAAHH WAHH when it is BLATANTLY obvious they havent lost a thing. Its them force-feeding us this bullshit like were supposed to give a shit about the profits of the big-time labels who have outlived their usefulness in nearly every capacity other than churning out flavor-of-the-hour radio trash like theyve always done or, in some cases, doing nothing but rehashing their old stuff for that nostalgia dollar and getting all pissy when that isnt going to work too well with the majority. Let me break it down a little: People DO still buy records. A lot more people buy records than theyll ever give the public credit for. I, for instance, support a lot of underground projects when I can. I generally dont have a lot of money, but a lot of what I do spend it on is, in fact, music. However; the part these whining celebrities will never include is that we are not constantly feeding money to them. The rich big-shots. And why should we? The hell have they done for us, lately? What thing of such great significance should be we giving them any money for when a lot of their current-day contemporaries from the underground (especially in regards to Thrash, in the case of Anthrax, seeing as though Scott Ians whining is what inspired this rant) vastly surpass them in quality? People today, for however well the big-time Pop stuff still does, are turning more and more to internet and generally underground alternatives to what is fed through the radio in bigger numbers every year. One reason I think might be because those underground artists generally dont ask fifteen-god-damned-dollars for an eight-track album that they can hear more than half of on the radio at any given point in the day! Hell, many underground artists explicitly offer their work for free on sites like Bandcamp that will also allow you do donate to them if the Name your price option is turned on. They also are allowed to innovate and explore new territory precisely because they arent bound by their popularity to artistic stagnation. People want new things these days. People get tired of the same three things over and over. Eventually, everyone is gonna want some change to their listening. Price is a big factor though. People are underpaid these days in many, many different careers. Not everyone has the money anymore. These whining celebrities are essentially asking a public that is becoming poorer and poorer to shell out more and more to them because they are famous. It is insulting. It is disgusting. It is greedy and it is pathetic. Every time one of these articles surfaces on a famous groups page where a member whines about this stuff, the comments are literally FILLED with people saying But we DID buy your records, though. Theyve already payed for it. What more do these rich scumbags want? Just give them money because they asked? Maybe they should do their job instead of whining and maybe we might, those infantile bourgeois pricks. Yknow, its precisely because of that rich-boy entitlement complex these people get that I DO steal their music. I steal it gladly and I dont loose an ounce of sleep about it. I dont steal from the underground artists that I love, I would never do that to them, they dont deserve that in the least, but when some money-bags bastard who hasnt done a thing in years screams and cries, out comes the downloader program. YOINK! Keep crying, baby. i0.kym-cdn/photos/images/newsfeed/000/021/503/tldr_trollcat.jpg?1318992465
