This is because of politics, but it is not in itself - TopicsExpress

This is because of politics, but it is not in itself political: If you are going to make broad statements (like liberals hate America) then you better be bringing a lot more than Fox News analysis to the discussion. I can, and will, point out your .... well for lack of a better term ... stupidity and I will back it up with facts. When you insult a group of people for their beliefs, you are being as un-American as you can without being Canadian (sorry to my Canadian friends). The problem with political discourse in this country is too many people are eager to repeat the zingers they get from their partisan media of choice. When you do that, you just show your ignorance. If you disagree with my opinion, and can make a well-reasoned case, you might get me to change my mind, or at the very least have some sympathy for your stance. Nothing makes me dig in my heels more than being called an Obama-lover just because I think Congress shares the blame for the failures of this administration. I post this because I just brought the smack down on someone who threw around invective and insults because I dared to say that conservatives give their wing-nuts the benefit of the doubt just like liberals do for theirs. You would think that is a no-brainer, but I was called all kinds of names for it. When I gave examples from history (recent and not so recent) I was told I did not know history. I effin read history textbooks for fun. So, when I give an historical example, I am pretty sure I am on solid ground. So, to sum up: Dont make broad accusations (GOP = Racist), back up your statements with facts (not hyperbole), and refrain from name-calling and you will get a reasoned response from me. Indulge in the mud-slinging that passes for debate nowadays and that is what you will get back tenfold. And as an added benefit, we might actually get a government that works FOR us.
