This is going to be a long post but believe me, you will get a good laugh (at my expense) if you read til the end... Most of you know that it hasnt been a great week around here. First we find out that our good friend, Sherry, passed away suddenly. The very next day we find out that Deanas cancer has spread again. Like I said, just really bad news all around. So yesterday morning I was heading to Gurnee for my new job with American Greetings. On the way I stopped off at church to take care of my weekly task of filling the busy bags for the kids at church. When I got there one of our pastors greeted me and asked how I was doing. In my head I could hear myself saying been a rough week, but doing okay. What really came out was its been a rough week as I burst into tears. Poor guy, I know it wasnt what he was expecting. He took me in his office and he prayed for Sherrys family and for Deana and her family. When I left I felt a bit better. I really like and respect our pastor so it gave me a sense of peace that he had prayed for my friends. Off I go to Toys R Us to work on an order that had just come in. As usual I was trying to multitask. Holding my phone to my ear with my shoulder I was squatting down to reach some of the lower rows of cards as I was talking to the woman in the hospital gift shop trying to get a gift basket sent up to Deana. I could feel myself losing my balance. No big deal I thought as I started to tip sideways a bit. I figured Id just put out my hand and stop myself. I didnt want to try and grab anything because I knew that I would cause quite a ruckus and I really didnt want to do that. Next thing I know I am sprawled out flat on my back in the middle of the aisle. I was never the most coordinated person and at 51 and overweight lets just say that I certainly have not become more nimble. But let me tell you, I got myself up off that floor as quickly as possible. I dont think I even dropped my phone because I dont remember picking it up, but I cant say for sure. I dont think that any of the workers or customers saw me. No one came over to ask if I was alright and I didnt hear loud laughter so I have to think that they didnt see me. But what I keep envisioning is a manager sitting in the office watching the whole thing unfold on the security camera. I finished up my job as fast as I could and got out of there. I had a good laugh when I got to my car. When I told Dennis last night what had happened he said that I better watch out, there is going to be a video of me on YouTube. I sure hope not. I figure this was Gods way of showing me that hes got a sense of humor and that laughter is the best medicine.
