This is going to be some random stuff but I am having difficulty - TopicsExpress

This is going to be some random stuff but I am having difficulty wrapping my mind around the fact that we do not have school tomorrow. I am excited not to have to get up at 5 a.am., but after that everything seems strange. I am understanding that it is Thanksgiving and I am all over that as I have so much to be thankful for. There really is not a season for this or cool songs the radio sends out. It is a day...and I really dont like the food of the day. I would rather have something else and we usually eat pretty late in the day as that stuff takes forever to fix. I did a little research on Thanksgiving and found it pretty interesting regarding the purpose of its origin. In 1621 they had a great harvest and wanted to give thanks for it and share their bounty. It carried on traditionally with lots of dates and changes to its meaning depending on where you were at the time. George Washington proclaimed the first nation-wide thanksgiving celebration in America marking November 26, 1789, as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favours of Almighty God. From there it was tradition for presidents, governors and leaders to proclaim the day. It was different dates from states to state. In 1863 Lincoln declared one for the whole union in an attempt to unite everyone....we all see how that turned out. In 1941 it was made permanent and a national holiday and I found it interesting that one of the reasons cited was the hope it would boost the economy. Things must have been pretty tough in 1941. So there it is. I think it is a great thing and I hope each person takes the time to reflect and give Thanks for the harvest that life has forded each of us. I started my Thanksgiving today. I am thankful for this time off as it has given me opportunity to decorate for Christmas. My wife has been all over this decorating thing and today I did some major work toward that end. Even the Firemen group that lights up houses came today and that is done. Thank you Ted Stevens! I cleaned out the garage, moved decoration boxes, put up the new Christmas tree and vacuumed. It is starting to look good. My wife knows decorating like Pirates know AHMO. Tomorrow I will get the oil changed on the Prius and rotate the tires before heading over to Forney for a 2 PM tipoff for boys basketball. By the time I get home I am pretty sure Pam will have this place completely decorated for Christmas. I just love Thanksgiving.....except I dont like turkey. And Tuesday the girls basketball plays at Horn and then it is off to Austin on Wednesday for the family part of Thanksgiving.....all this because a bunch of Pilgrims had a great harvest in 1621. I love history too. It impacts us every single day.
