This is how authors drive editors — and the entire publishing staff — crazy. Months ago I told Linda that next I was going to start a series of books set in a town I made up. The first three books were going to be about half sisters. She loved this idea and began planning it and presenting it to Random House to have the word “sisters” in the series title. Yesterday I worked until about 6 p.m. on the Jamie book, then turned off my computer. I got up and zap! I had an idea. I hadn’t even been thinking about the next books but there it was. I think I told you that it was in my mind that my hero, Todd, would think he’s falling for one half sister, but would actually end up with another one. The idea that hit me was that in the book his uncle Kit was dealing with 2 women, one young and one older. I suddenly knew that Todd wasn’t going to fall for one of the half sisters but for Erin, the younger one. It makes sense as Todd is staying in the house his uncle bought and the young woman works for him. They are together often. This all makes sense to me but this means that my next trilogy is NOT about 3 half sisters. There’s no way I can make Erin one of the half sisters as she has a lot of family problems. This means that all Linda’s marketing ideas will be thrown out the window. I wrote her about this but so far I haven’t heard back. Jamie and Hallie saw the old room, then the story switched to Braden. He’s a nice guy but he has some odd ideas about my Hallie. I look forward to changing his mind! Are there any books you are looking forward to coming out? Amy Tan’s book is on my pre-order list. Reading that will be an all-nighter! Jude
