This is my Grandma and Grandad, Harry and Iris Kirkham, both gone but not forgotten, my Grandad was in the merchant navy and a part of the malta convoys operation pedestal, supplying malta with food, fuel an ammonition. The ship he was on was hit by a torpedo and sunk he managed to escape a rescue ship came to save him and the crew and coincidently a crew member of the rescue ship was my grandads brother, He was also captured by the germans, in north africa and escaped from that camp along with a few other pows, my Grandad was honoured in the kings new years honours list 1942. My Grandma died in 1989 of cancer my grandad died around a year and a half later in my opinion of a broken heart. I miss them still even to this day. I am proud to call them my Grandparents.
