This is my dog, Bailey. She is 13 years old. Weve had her since she was a pup. She is sick. Probably a recurrence of cancer of some kind. We are treating her with a grain-free diet and homeopathic products. Most days she is happy and feeling pretty good. Somedays... not so much. There was an article in Sundays Peninsula Daily News about Pawspice care (play on words for Hospice) for terminally ill pets. If you havent read it, it is worth the read. It asks 7 questions that you are to answer about your pets quality of life by rating your answer on a scale of 0-10. A score of 35 or higher is good, lower means you should make some changes to improve the situation. The questions are as follows: Is my pets pain manageable with medication or oxygen therapy? ? Is my pets appetite good? 10 Is my pet drinking enough water?10 Is my pet staying clean? 9 (likes to lay in the cool dirt!) Is my pet happy? 9 Is my pet mobile? 8 Is my pet having more good days than bad? 10 My answers are the numbers behind the questions. So with that, I guess we are doing okay. It is a difficult time. I know some will shake their heads and say Shes just a dog. Well, she is my dog, and I love her with all of my heart. I hope that we are making the right decisions...
