This is my first spot. Washington Square, 8:30 pm, not the dog - TopicsExpress

This is my first spot. Washington Square, 8:30 pm, not the dog run. I did not have an opportunity to snap the spot in the dark, and would have looked very creepy if I had tried. I tread my weary legs through the park to get the train at West 4th. A German Shepherd is off her leash on a little lawn. People usually picnic or sunbathe or try to look cool like they have realized the American dream by lying out there. She is a giant, at least 5 million feet tall. She wants to play. Her human must be somewhere but I cannot see them. She picks up a stick with her mouth. Solace. Run, she seems to tell herself, and they will find you. She runs around the tiny field with the trees, searching every fence post for her human, attentive and nimble in the autumn night. Where are they? We may not ever know, but one thing is certain. She was trying to make fetch happen.
