This is not an April Fools joke. I remember the issue well and had just bought my 1995 MR2 (in red no less). What a sweet little ride it was. Seven years and 97,000 miles later, I sold it, having spent very little money on repairs (one O2 sensor and a couple of worn out switches) and thoroughly enjoyed the handling from its snug cockpit. If Mazda had not perfected the modern day drop top (Miata), I would have kept it until the Mk3 MR2 (Spyder AKA MR-S) came out. I skipped over the more expensive and heavier Mk2 MR2 Turbo, but it was tempting. Although I loved my Spyder and was able to do a lot of modifications that improved it, the original MR2 might have been the better car. I think of steering (manual rack), suspension, the overall feel of the car. All three cars mentioned could have used more power, but were really great packages right from the factory. Toyota definitely hit one out of the park with the original Midship Runabout.
