This is not some automated social network add on, I am literally writing this for you all. Have you ever wondered what to do if you’re in a car accident? What I did before I was in the insurance world might be similar to what you are doing now, and its not helping you at all. First thing I would do is want to interview the other driver and see their driver’s license. Why? Am I a police officer? No. Don’t worry about that. 1st thing you SHOULD do is make sure everyone is ok. Next, if you are on private property, i.e... The grocery store, the gym, etc.... look around for a witness. This is assuming you are not at fault. The police will not respond to an accident on private property if no serious injuries have taken place. If you find a witness, ask them what they saw and ask them for their cell phone number and if you can use them for the claim. Tell them, someone will be calling them. Next, ask the other person for their insurance cards. When you have it, call their insurance company right now. I dont care if its 2am. Do it. Next, do not leave until you have spoken to their insurance company and they have also spoken to the other driver. This is where most of us go wrong. We get the information and then we leave thinking, Ill file the claim tomorrow and itll be fine. Unfortunately, it never seems to go so smooth. The other driver doesnt call their own insurance company back, or they lie and say it was your fault, or worse of all, they dont have current insurance and the information they provided you was fake. I wish people were honest, and even if the person is Santa Clause, you should call the other insurance company right meow!
