This is not technically a dog post but it is something I thought everyone one here might enjoy so Im sharing a poem I wrote about our dogs. :) Why I Breed Aussies By: Robin Blasingame “Why do you breed these Aussies?” they ask and really want to know Since I bred them one to love, to spoil, to train, and to show. “Well that’s a difficult question,” I say. “The reasons are so many. I know it’s not for money Though they’re worth a pretty penny. No, the reasons are much bigger Than the check you write today. Can I borrow that puppy To explain your fears away? Observe these tiny puppy feet That follow where you lead, do not wander, do not stray no matter where you proceed. Next note his fuzzy little belly, This cutie’s got some guts. I do not mean digestively I mean the kind with nuts. The grit and go we all admire Within this shape combined To herd and work all day long As he has been designed. Next if you will note his ears, attentive and ready to listen. This reflects his attitude of Gentle, loving submission. For this you treat him gently. He won’t require heavy hands. He’s been bred to love you dearly So take care with your demands. Now see his marbled eyes. Each is special and unique. But those eyes are all yours Whenever he hears you speak. Next his muzzle, clean and long With matching scissor bite Take a piece out of your heart With not one hint of fight. Assess his back, straight and square, strong lines from fronts to rears. He’ll carry secrets, hopes, and fears, And always be there for your tears. No family member a stranger, Though with others he’s reserved. But your babes now have the guardian That you know they really deserved. They’re are work and grit and sweat Wrapped up in pretty collections Of merles and tris, blacks and reds Desperate for your affections. I suppose I breed the whole package And for me no other kind would do Because I want to make sure these Dogs have a future home in you. Now I know I’ve skipped a part. I saved the best for last. Every Aussie owner knows it Cuz you’ll see it come on fast. I’m talking about the part that Makes Aussie breeders strut The biggest reason I breed these dogs is cuz I love their wiggle butt.”
