This is so sad. When, when are rational, reasonable people going to realize that football needs to change, and change quickly. This story is all too familiar...we know the story of Junior Seau and Dave Duerson, now Kosta Karageorge. But how many more current or former players have to meet the same fate before change happens? Two human beings hurling themselves into each other at full speed and wearing armor is not what the body was designed to do. I feel so badly for this mother and family. They sent their son to college to get an education on the heels of his athletic ability...and instead of a graduation to celebrate, they are planning his funeral. But as long as the NCAA and NFL continue to bring in BILLIONS of dollars a year, nothing will change. We look back at Ancient Rome and the Coliseum, and say what barbaric behavior. What will humanity say in another thousand years when they look back at us...taking our children, wrapping them in armor, sticking microphones on the sidelines of fields so the viewing audience not only sees the violence of the hit, but also hears it! Parents on the sidelines screaming like rabid animals. Coaches sending young men on to the field knowing that a catastrophic injury is one hit away, and when that injury occurs, they send another player out destined for the same fate. Its like trench warfare...just keep sending them as long as you have them to send. We are no different than Ancient Rome in that we are bloodthirsty. For me, though, my attraction to football was just reduced significantly after watching this video and seeing Kostas mom crying and getting hugged by someone on the campus of The Ohio State University. No mother should EVER cry tears of sorrow when on the campus of her child. She should only feel a sense of joy and pride. I am sorry for your loss...my hope is others will now begin to realize what I have...its just a game...if the violence was toned down significantly, would it REALLY effect the outcome? Would it really make it less appealing to watch? If your answer is yes, then, yes, you are bloodthirsty.
