This is the 100th Anniversary of WWI. Join me in Honoring my 12 relatives that fought in France in the 371st Colored Troops & the US Army 156th Depot Brigades. The 371st Colored Troops were in the 396th Harlem Hellfighters (called Blue Helmuts). The WWI US Armys 371st Colored Troops were the 1st to use Mustard Gas. The Strothers (Jullian, Milton, David, 3 of my mothers white uncles), four of the sons of Milton & Martha Strother (Milton Jr., Jullian, Edwin, Euguene), the Bulls (Robert, Harry, Joseph, Robbie, Joe) and the Eichelburgers of South Carolina were all honored with medals by France. France continued to honor them with celebrations, a monument and a commenorative medallion. When they returned to the United States they were not honored with the tree planting. Sonya Hodges - Military historian from Columbia SC has organized a tree planting for these men from South Carolina to France to the United States last week. She has the White & Coloredroosters for the WWI men and Women. For more information on my families military history Revolutionary war to Korea visit plantationquilts/military-history.html
