This is the Thanksgiving Day Report from Mayberry by the sea........well...almost....sometimes I have been accused of being a space cowboy.....off in Mickeyland wandering around.....inside of my groovy bubble and they are right...sometimes I am...and I like it there....one of the side affects of this is that I dont know what day it is and dont care...my job doesnt dictate to me that that is something I have to keep up with....so I think it is Thursday when it is in fact Wednesday.....like today.....or like the times where I took my wife to two three hours movies on the night of The National College Football Championships......two years in a row!!!.....where I suffered extreme whiplash from the fact that the bones in my neck turned to rubber and my head jerked back and forth violently trying to stay awake during them....so I wake up and say...TODAY is the day for the big feast.......I got a haircut yesterday for the big day and I was getting STOKED!!!......but then I was informed that Thanksgiving is tomorrow and I will have to wait for turkey and stuffing..........and now for the news..........today is the day before Thanksgiving and I have a prayer......Oh Lord above.....thank thee for thine blessings...thank thee for helping thy rebuke those who have begot me....and thank thee for helping thy forgive myself for rebuking those who have begot me....also......Thank thee for keeping thy from killing again when the train down town made me wait forever as it crossed the road...and then two blocks later when two transfer trucks blocked my access for another wait..... then one block later having to wait for a long funeral to pass...then 20 minutes later when I am standing in the pouring rain helping a lady jump start her car....after pushing it into place....only to have another woman drive up and start honking her horn at me to move...throwing her hands up in the air.........I motioned for her to drive around and could tell she was upset with me......so....I walk up to her car only to discover it is a good friend of mine who doesnt see as well as she did once and didnt know I was jumping a car and I can understand her frustration.......so...thank thou for thee calming force on thy......one more thing........would it kill thee to grant us some sunshine.....thine world is soggy and damp.....please......................so I see Joni Mitchell on TV and she is not happy with the fact that Taylor Swift played her in a Biopic?...whatever that means....the pasty looking guy from the Twilight series is supposed to play Kurt Cobain and if I were Kurt I would not only turn in my grave but rise from it and put a stop to it.........I said that once to a crazed fan of the series...a grown woman....who I have known since high school.....who is obsessed with this pasty actor vampire...I was going for levity and a chuckle but got something very different.....she......went... ballistic on me and blocked me after the comment........I was bemused at her reaction and how some people become obsessed with a character from a movie or a TV series.....I had a guy go off on me one night on Facebook...he said that my writing about Mayberry by the sea was a disservice to the Real Mayberry...I was quick to inform him that.... the real Mayberry was a fictional town in a TV series ......and made him look stupid...just like I told the woman who went off on me.....you chose to end a friendship that spanned 40 years for a character in a movie series......and both of these people had the nerve to say I was the one that was crazy.......so I am sitting here thinking....maybe Joni Mitchell is being too hard but maybe not...Val Kilmer played Jim Morrisson convincingly.....Joaquin Phoenix did a good job playing Cash....Elvis has never been played right but Curt Russell came close......Kate Blanchet played the role of Bob Dylan well and Jamie Fox did a wonderful job playing Ray Charles.........I sit and wonder.....if I was famous enough to make a movie....who would I want to play me.............Spencer Tracy who played Santiago in Ernest Hemingways Old Man in The Sea....because he had his struggles but maintained his dignity........Mike Myers and Dana Carvey in Waynes World...because they are funny and live in their own microcosm....Marilyn Monroe....because she had sleep problems and struggled with the same demons....throw in Robin Williams.....Lee Marvin in The Dirty Dozen because I feel like a misfit in this world at times.....Marlan Brando in The Wild Ones...because I like to think Im a bad boy but Im not really......James dean because I am a rebel without a clue......Richie Cunningham because I am nice to a fault......throw in some Alfalfa and some Buckwheat.....maybe a pinch of Cary Grant because I can be very swave and de-boner.....but really because Cary Grant was nothing like the character he played on the movies.....he was an ordinary guy that did ordinary things when he was not making a movie.....a good guy that like to drop acid whenback then.. it was thought to open the doors of perception and smoked reefer and was just being human...not the character he played......mix all of those people together and I come up with the actor to play me....Dennis Hopper it is.....I have a bike called Elvis and another called the Shadow....when I hop on it I am Marlon Brando in the Wild ones..........some days are like Apocalypse Now....A Rebel without a Cause and Blue Velvet....and every day I am the Easy Rider...we are the same height...we both have an affinity for art....we are both counter culture and skip to our own drumbeat.....he lived to be 74 and the if Williams men make it out of our 60s its a milestone....Dennis Hopper it is....Mayberry by the sea.....the quarantine island....the island of exile along the broken coast...happy thanksgiving today
