This is the author E. B. White and his dog Minnie. Mr. White wrote books about animals such as pigs, spiders, swans, and a little mouse. Thing is, he never wrote a book about dogs. You might think that little Minnie would have inspired him! In a way, she did. He wrote a lot about dogs in poems, essays, and letters. He even used to draw pictures of dogs. His granddaughter collected all those dog writings and drawings in a book, so now Mr. White has a book about dogs even though he doesn’t know it. Isn’t authorship interesting? Literary people say that Mr. White was a masterful writer. Literary dogs are not so sure because he was also the co-author of a book about writing called THE ELEMENTS OF STYLE. Language is stupid, as you know, so how can a guide about writing with language be anything but stupid? Now that’s what I call irrefutable, unrefutable, and nonrefutable logic! We forgive Mr. White, though, because he had dozens of dogs during his life. He really loved us, even if he was a little misguided about language.
