Periyava is for dharmaswarupam,simplicity. From him we can learn the nuances of dharma sastram. This was the experience of the Pollachi Jayam mamai . During Masi/Panguni, karadayan nombu will be done by ladies. The timing of the nombu depends upon the birth of the tamil month. Sometimes the month time will come late. So ladies will be ‘madi’ for performing the nombu. For Pollachi Jayam mami, everything is Periyava. So she decided to perfrom the karadaiyan nombu where Periyava was camping. She had also planned to preprare ‘some delicious adais” and distribute to kaingariya devotees. As kaingariya devotees were also known to this woman devotee, Pollachi Jayam prepared the dish and invited all the kaingariya devotees for taking of ‘adais”. After performing the nombu, she was waiting for the arrival kaingariya devotees but they did not turn up. So Pollachi Jayam mami was full of ‘thapam” and was before Periyava . The kaingariya devotees told that mami that Periyava never gave permission to visit the place and take that ‘adais” Pollachi Jayam mami was felt very much and she also prepared the dishes with full ‘ madi’. As she was before Periyava, Periyava asked her” What day is today” . She replied as Sunday. On Sundays, as per sastras, we are not supposed to take after sunset. As Periyava had said that we must take food after sunset on Sundays, Jayam mami felt that she had taken the food after performing the karadaiyan nombu. Periyava told that it is your duty to perform nombu and take food. So you have not violated the sastras. So there is pavam to you . After that woman devotee was satisfied with Periyava’s reply . Thus Periyava observed nuances of sastras and also watched his devotees followed the sastras. So he is for that and in the place of Acharya. Upanayanam- After naandhi- no to meals. Chinnasamudhiram-Andhra- This devotee was a crorepati and very much attached to Periyava. He performed upanayanam for his son and he had invited the kaingariya devotees for upanayanam. Periyava ordered all the kaingariya devotees to go and attend the upanayanam but with instructions that no one should take food. The reasons for “no” to take food was not even known the devotees. The kaingariya devotees attended the upanayanam and also blessed the boy after upanayanam and came to Periyava’s camp without taking food.The devotee was upset of the kaingariya devotees action of blessing the boy but not taking food after upanayanam was over. The devotee came and was before Periyava. Periyava told that you did ‘Naandi” today. This is equal to pitru kariyam. We are not supposed to take food where naandi was done. So I have asked the kaingariya devotees not to take food in your function. The devotee was satisfied and the kaingariya devotees and others also came to know the importance of ‘naandi” .Thus Periyava observed that his devotees also followed the path of dharma in all respects. Masyam- every month in remembrance; Usually we are doing masyam after the death. This comes every month and the devotee of Periyava used to observe what Periyava says was performing masyam in his house. Our house may be a decorated one . But we perform things outside after paying some amount. We must do everything in our house. Acharams are important. We must do all our activities in our homes and we will get all benefits for doing this. By doing sradams in our houses,we get the blessings of our elders,thevathais,atththis etc. Similarly the masyam was performed in the devotee’s house and one of the “bramanals”after taking food vomited . That is not a good sign for the family. Why that ‘brahmanal’ vomited and later it was found, during crusing of pulses for vadais, a ‘pooran’ (serpentine) was crushed with the ingredients for the vadais and vadais were served and that poison would have entered. So that brahmanal vomited . The devotee was full of ‘thapam’ because they follow what Periyava says in day to day life. He was weeping before Periyava. Periayva told that you are regretting for the incident and itself is a good thing. You are not saying that I have not done. When you feel for the act commited., that itself a prachittam for your action. Periayava told that devotee that you perform once again the sradam and after one year, go and perform sradam in Gaya. That devotee was fully satisfied and he felt that his mother attained moksham. Such is the mastery of Periyava for saying things in a practical way. Vanaja- devotee-Bangalore. The woman devotee Smt Vanaja of Bangalore was an ardent follower of Periyava.This family had done lot to Sri Sankara Matam at Bangalore and also to Shri Kanchi Kamakoti matam also. They will come to Periyava for each and everything. She had two brothers. One was in music troupe and was not having regularly salary and nobody came forward to settle a marriage alliance for him. . His brother was employed and many came forward for the marriage alliances. His younger brother was planning to go to a foreign country and so the woman devotee and his family were in hurry to finalise the marriage before his foreign trip. When they came before Periyava, Periyava how can you perfrom marriage for the younger when the marriage for his elder was not settled?. Periyava was not for the marriage of younger brother. The girl side wanted the woman devotee to finalise betrothal before the younger brother goes to foreign country. So the woman devotee went to Periyava with the proposal for the betrothal (nichayathartam) for his younger brother. Periyava did not agree for that also. Dejected and was before Periyava – needed the anugraham of Periyava to follow what Periyava had said.The betrothal for his younger brother was fixed tomorrow. Before that a phone call came from one of the famiiles that they are ready for marriage alliance for the elder brother. They came and finalized the proposal. ‘Thattu matti kola vendum” . That was before the betrothal time of younger brother. This was done to anugraham of Periyava. Thus Periyava blessed the woman devotee to follow the path of dharma. Have the belief in Periyava. Periyava will do all for us.
