This is the post from July 31, 2014 - The 1 year anniversary of Seths diagnosis. I guess the secret is to copy and paste from a computer rather than my phone! Today is a day to celebrate! One year ago today miracles took place that saved my sons life. This series of miracles led to Seths Hodgkins Lymphoma diagnosis. To praise God for these miracles, I want to chronicle that day in hopes that it can be an inspiration to all and a reminder to trust God, allow Him to guide your steps, listen to the little voice inside you and allow people to love and care for you. Some of you have heard all of this, but many still ask what happened so even though this is long, I want to share the story. 7/31/13 (approximate times) 6:00 am: I was awake at this hour which was not usual.(MIRACLE #1). I bumped into Seth in the hall and asked him the usual how are you?. He then told me he wasnt feeling well, cough, headache, fever the night before and had sweat so much he soaked the sheets a couple times. I said maybe he should stay home from work and go to the doctor. He agreed to go to the doctor (MIRACLE #2). 9:00 am: I called and our nurse practitioner was on vacation and the doctor over her was completely booked. She put me on hold, and the nurse practitioners scheduler overheard Seths name and she spoke up and said we should be seen because she had remembered he missed an appointment a couple of weeks prior regarding an episode of turning blue. (I will explain later) Because she heard this and spoke up he was told to come over immediately and he would be worked in (MIRACLE #3). This doctor had never seen Seth as a patient before, but agreed to see him even though he was booked (MIRACLE #4). 10:00 am: We are seen by doctor, who determines his symptoms are more than likely viral. As he enters his notes in the computer I ask if he has a minute for me to run something strange by him that happened a couple of weeks ago (MIRACLE #5) He said of course. Seth had been in a cold pool and turned blue from the chest up, had tightness and pressure in his neck and head. His color returned to normal when exiting the pool, but the pressure remained for a week. He had been taking naps, telling me was tired and he had a headache, but did not tell me about this experience until a week after. I called the nurse practitioner who said if the turning blue had not continued we were okay to make an appointment. We both forgot the appointment and had re-scheduled for the week following 7/31. The doctor said it was probably a one-time thing that we may never know what caused it but if it happened again, to be seen immediately. He then continued his notes. He paused and said we could do a chest x-ray (MIRACLE #6). Seth told me he almost said no, he was fine, but for some reason decided to go ahead with it (MIRACLE #7). 10:30 am Seth has the chest x-ray, and are told to wait so they can make sure the films came out okay. Fifteen minutes later we are told the doctor wants to do a CT scan right away because there was something seen on the x-ray. So Seth is taken back for the CT and I am concerned at this point and go upstairs to call Chuck. Seth was asked to wait following the CT. We waited 30 minutes or so....we both knew something was wrong but neither spoke. We were then told that the doctor would like to see us back at his office. 11:30 am We are put in a room waiting for the doctor, reading magazines and making small talk. After the other patients are gone, and most employees have gone to lunch, doctor comes in and says he knows what is causing Seths symptoms and he is certain it is cancer and almost certain it is Lymphoma. He tells us he has a massive tumor in his chest and it is compressing the two major blood vessels at the top of the heart. Probably the cold water caused a constriction which caused him to turn blue and have pressure and tightness in his head and neck. That was the hardest day ever for our family. It was terrifying, shocking, and very emotional for all of us. But, without each of these events, each of these miracles, we dont even want to think of what would have happened. But because of each of these miracles, Seth was diagnosed, treated, and is now cancer-free! Truly an amazing praise-worthy day that we will always, always celebrate! Thank you to Dr. Bob Morrow, and to both office staff who made that appointment happen! You are all heroes! We love you Seth, to the moon and back times infinity! You inspire us, you make us laugh, and you bring so much joy to us and all who know you. Now - here are some photos from Seths amazing cancer-free summer!
