This is the ride were on. Im strapped in and trying to hold on. Its an amazing wonderful blessing Im trying not to mess up. Since moving Ive really struggled. Ive felt Ive had to justify to people why we homeschool and when I do its usually just a blank stare back at me that I get. Just over the last few days Ive came to the realization that I dont need approval from people that havent walked in my shoes. The depth and understanding of wading through this beautiful mess is hard to understand unless you are living it. So as I read this article I think wow she must have been in my house yesterday when we started with advanced language arts and finished three hours later when we had to deal with the pages of the book feeling rougher than usual but the content of the program and the literature is so good Im enjoying it too. Then we had multiple tantrums because we might not get 100% on our math and anything below 90 is an absolute failure and we must do it all in our head because we wouldnt want any marks messing up our paper, followed by Legos, and Star Wars light saber fighting moves in our tiny house and obsessive lingering conversation about Melon Whales and when I look at the clock its only 1:30. I know that when outsiders look at me or maybe even read this you think he must have ADHD, Autism, sensory issues......no folks this is what living with over excitabilities as a gifted child looks like. Everyday I carry the load of hoping that Im doing justice to the gift my son was given its not easy being 8, 16, 12, and 7 all at the same time but this is the reality of asynchronous development. Im educated, I do have my childs future in my best interest or I wouldnt be homeschooling him :) so instead of judging my decision, how about a little compassion for a mom that ends everyday exhausted because I want my child to be successful more than you will ever know.
