This is to anyone opposed to increasing the minimum wage, especially for those working at fast food joints because those jobs are “just starter jobs for teenagers”. The next time you have a day off in the middle of the week, get up at your normal time, and then go to your choice of fast food restaurant for breakfast. Chances are it won’t be some pimply faced teenager taking your order. It’s more than likely somebody’s mother working so she provide a decent supper that night. Or maybe it’s someone’s grandma because her husband’s retirement was wiped out by the stock market crash, or bank failure. You see, the “starter jobs” for teenagers don’t exist anymore. The greed of Wall Street and corrupt bankers has driven the older “golden years” workers back into the workforce, taking any employment they could find. And there are plenty of greedy corporations willing to take advantage of them, just as they would any teenager trying for his or her first job. An increase to the minimum wage will increase the spending power of ALL that receive it. The increase in spending creates an increase in demand. Increased demand requires an increase in labor. Increase in labor means less unemployment and reduces the number of people needing government assistance. Or would you rather just pay more in taxes?
