This is very inspiring and encouraging !!!! Peggy Lim is one of our seniors from IFB, far more senior than our Team Leader, Maxim Lim and myself. She is also known as the Charity Queen, building the bridges between the charities like KWSH and IFB. She is a very active volunteer with various charities in Spore. Around 3-4 years back, she suffered from stroke symptoms one evening while we were at the RDX Mei Ling volunteer site. She called me on my mobile around 7pm apologising that she would be unable to turn up for volunteer work as she felt numbness in her arms and her speech was slurring. Of course we got anxious and asked her to get to the hospital immediately. She wanted to wait for her son to return home from work, then bring her to hospital. We told her NO over the phone and I asked to speak to her husband as I couldnt catch her slurred speech anymore . We asked the husband to get a needle and prick her 10 finger tips immediately to release the pressure while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. (We found out that the husband was scared to use the needle & in the end, Peggy pricked her own finger tips before the ambulance arrived). That probably was the first step to prevent her from serious blood clots in her brains. She was hospitalised immediately and other usual symptoms followed of a typical stroke patient. As Peggy is also a RDX practitioner, she knows exactly how to self-help through meditation, hot compress and blood filtration methods during her hospitalisation. At the same time, a dedicated team of RDX volunteers staying or working near her hospital visited her daily. The volunteers helped her with the RDX therapy sessions on a daily basis since the early stage is crucial known as golden hours. If I remember correctly, she was up and discharged after a short stay. Another group of volunteers who were staying near her place also went to her place on a rotational schedule to continue with the RDX therapy sessions on a daily basis until she is > 75% mobile. Two of her family members also learnt RDX to continue with the home therapy sessions. She did suffered a 2nd stroke shortly after the 1st incident and our volunteering routine continued with commitment and passion. Her recovery was fast though movements were impacted. But being a resilient lady, she overcame the obstacles. Today, she is able to take public transport on her own without much help. It is amazing to learn that she just completed the walking meditation around the monastery during the weekend. It is an achievement. For many of us who participated in the 3 step 1 bow ritual on the eve of Vesak Day, we know how the route is like. Well done, Peggy Lim! You have helped yourself with the RDX techniques which complement your medication treatment at the same time. We are proud of you. We hope all other past and existing practitioners do not undermine this skillset you are equipped with. It will come in handy one of these days. And we are excited to meet another new cohort of new practitioners starting from tomorrow. Cheers :-)
