This is what I posted on Twitter last night: PR advice: Perhaps Putin can put on an international athletic event and the world can avert its eyes from his thuggery. It worked before. For those of us who were so vocal in opposition to Putins Potemkin Olympics and were told we were .. you know ... so tiresome and even tedious in our opposition and why couldnt we just relax and shut up let everybody else enjoy the propagandist spectacle of it all, it was always about more than his treatment of LGBT Russian citizens though it was certainly mainly about that. It was, moreover, about how that treatment was a kind of tip of the spear of the thuggish fascism it represented. Now that the primitive weaponry metaphor and such fascist thuggery has expanded into weaponry that is neither primitive nor metaphoric and his thuggery dangerously exported to other thuggish characters, the worlds attention has been joined. It has been heartbreakingly jolted into having to deal with this preening dangerous little jerk.
