This is what makes it worth the effort. I would like to thank my grandfather and father for getting me involved in such a great hobby. In 1967 my grandfather George Knecht came to visit us here in Wakefield, it was his first time out of the country let alone be on a plane. At 69 years old that was quite a feat. Back in Germany he had the most beautiful garden, one that I could only dream off. Well the land where the our garden is now was just a total mess off weeds. I remember walking uptown with him and buying a pitch fork, shovel, rake and whatever else he needed to get started. 69 years old and on vacation and he wants to start a garden. I was 7 then and thought it was so cool. He spent several days digging, turning and pulling weeds. then I remember walking to Devitas green house down on Vernon st. and buying all kinds off plants. Then when he left my dad took over for the next 25 years even buying a green house that he put in his garden. (If he was alive i would kill him for getting rid of it when I moved out). now i have had the honor of keeping the tradition going. Its in the blood I guess. Peace, I hope you enjoyed the story.
