This is where I was today. Hall of Distinguished Educators lists inductees Honor recognizes contributions to education NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Gallaspy College of Education and Human Development will induct five alumni into its Hall of Distinguished Educators during Homecoming festivities Oct. 11 and recognize a long-time educator as a Friend of Education. This year’s honorees are Distinguished Educators Dr. Sara Peace Ebarb of Shreveport, Dr. Karen Jane Mayes Griffin of Tullos, W. Edward Hearron of Shreveport, Julia Chambers Hildebrand of Natchitoches, Elouise Sanders of Arcadia and Friend of Education Michael J. “Mickey” Murphy. The Gallaspy College of Education will host a social and reunion from 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 in the Teacher Education Center’s Commons area. An induction ceremony for honorees will be at 10 a.m. in the Teacher Education Auditorium. Northwestern State established the Hall of Distinguished Educators in 2000 to recognize graduates of NSU’s teacher education program who have made significant contributions to the field of education. Dr. Sara Ebarb has served as superintendent of schools in Sabine Parish since 2010. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Northwestern in 1983, a master’s in counseling at Louisiana Tech in 1986 and a master’s degree plus 30 in supervision in 1995 and administration in 1989. She earned her doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in 2008. Prior to her current position, she worked in administration for the Caddo Parish School Board and as a principal, assistant principal, counselor and classroom teacher in Caddo Parish. She was also an adjunct instructor for LSU-Shreveport and Centenary College. Ebarb has earned many professional honors during her career, including being named Louisiana PTA Educator of Distinction, regional and district Principal of the Year and Assistant Principal of the Year.
