This is why I use translations that are from the Greek and not the Latin. Youngs Literal Translation Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed, and shaken, and running over, they shall give into your bosom; for with that measure with which ye measure, it shall be measured to you again. King James 2000 Bible Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your lap. For with the same measure that you measure it shall be measured to you again. American King James Version Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete with it shall be measured to you again. You’ll notice that the use of Latin has confused the translations between two or more King James bibles. Ever since the Latins got hold of scripture, theyve twisted and redirected its intent. If you stick with the Greek like Young’s and such, you begin to realize how the notion of giving has been perverted into the giving of money. Pastors use this and other verses to wrangle cash and fleece the gullible! Give as much of your money as you can … but not because of this verse. When was the last time someone came and ripped your chest open and packed money in around your … HEART?? They changed it to lap in a few instances in order to entice you to give in order to get! GIVE!! Give help, advice, food, shelter, LOVE and hope! Give some money if you have it after rendering to Caesar and the Electric Company etc. Don’t be BULLIED into giving 10% by folks who use ONE verse out of context! GIVE 100% of all you are, and out of the abundance of your heart! THAT is what will be growing and reaping … your HEART! I’ll close with a notion about storing up treasures in Heaven: A guy finally figured a way to get his money up to Heaven. When St. Peter met him at the Pearly Gates, he asked what the guy had in the bags. The guy said, ”GOLD!! This is my GOLD!” St. Peter said,” Impressive! Just toss it in the pile marked ‘Street Repairs.” Give … it’ll pack your heart to overflowing! from Incontestable Affirmations of Lunacy by ~ Joe Lindsey
