This kind of reaction is inevitably the result of preaching the modern prosperity gospel, which says God has a wonderful plan for you life, or that Jesus Christ will give you love, joy, peace, and lasting happiness, without telling you to flee from the wrath to come. Because of it, people come to the church with false motives, and when they find themselves unfulfilled, they say I tried Christianity, and it didnt work. The atheist church took it a bit further and said I still like going to church, so well keep that part. We as Christians ought rather to be warning sinners that they have sinned against a holy God and are storing up wrath for themselves to be revealed on the day of judgment. Only after they understand that will they understand Jesus living a righteous life and taking Gods wrath upon himself in our place. Only when they realize the disease will they appropriate the cure. They must understand the need for the cross as set forth by scripture.
