This list is compiled of 12 people who are suspected of animal abuse and have warrants out for their arrest. These are cases where household pets were dying of hypothermia and dehydration after being abandoned in the middle of winter with no heat. In one case, "a dog was found with ribs, hips, and spine jutting through scruffy skin after the owner abandoned his house and left his pet behind in the backyard, malnourished without shelter, food or water. In another case, "two dogs and two cats caked with feces and urine, riddled with fleas, hungry and thirsty after their owner locked them in crates and left them behind after being evicted from her apartment." "Thankfully, many of the animal victims of these summer sweep targets were rescued and nursed back to health by our partners at the Capital Area Humane Society, said City Attorney Richard Pfeiffer, Jr. "But we still want justice for the suffering these pets endured." One mother and daughter team has 16 criminal counts of cruelty to animals and abandoning animals between them. Ten sick cats and two dogs were found in filth in a trailer home.
