This made me tear up. I was 17 when I saw the Kaaba for the first time. I still remember it in lucid detail. I remember the build up to it and that moment when I laid my eyes on it. In that moment everything stopped, and then I just broke down. I cried so much that day. As we were doing the Tawaf, then during the prayers. I cried away my fears, insecurities, sorrows and with each passing second I felt stronger and more complete. To actually face the Kaaba and pray! To be surrounded by people from all over the world, different tongues, all praising Allah. Surreal is all I can say. Today as millions of people assemble at Arafat supplicating to God, revitalizing their souls, I am left here with a strange mix of gratitude and yearning. Gratitude for having had the opportunity once, and a yearning to go back to that moment and live it again. May Allah grant us that mercy.
