This might make some of you happy! I was talked into starting this today. “Are you sure about this?” Aiden studied me with his pale blue eyes as we stood outside the Pachette Playhouse. “I think so.” My gaze drifted up the length of the structure. White, two-story house. Attic. “It appears to look normal from here. So, what’s the story on it,” I asked, turning toward him. “There’s talk that the paintings and the pictures on the walls animate, mirrors bleed, and few people have been pushed down the steps.” He lifted his hand and raked it through his short, dark hair. Even though I missed his preppy, skater-guy look, his shorter hair made him appear more sophisticated. Actually, it made him even hotter. “Anything else? Any ghost sightings or anything?” “Some people have seen strange lights and faces in the second story window.” Aiden leaned up against the side of the tree in the front yard. “And I think some orbs.” I glanced down at my watch. “Chelsea was supposed to meet us here ten minutes ago.” “You know how your sister is with her timing.” Aiden chuckled. “Yeah.” I rolled my eyes, remembering how she showed up at the last minute a few weeks ago when I had to destroy my psychotic father. Luckily, we made it out alive. Well, Aiden and I did. Everyone else was already dead. They just had to be led into the light by my sister. Who, by the way, failed to tell me what her job was in the afterlife. “So, did you want to wait for her?” Aiden’s voice wandered into my thoughts. I sighed deeply. “No, let’s get this over with. Whatever’s in there can’t be any scary than the corpses Rockland unleashed on me during my childhood.” Aiden pushed his body away from the tree and slipped his fingers through mine. “Just remember this is for a good cause. You were given this gift for a reason.” He squeezed my hand gently. “And, besides, we’re together. I’m not going anywhere.” “I know.” I swallowed hard as we started for the front porch of the historical house. “But the only thing I worry about is that you can’t see them. And, you can’t fight them like you used to be able too.” “It’s fine, Lia.” Confidence flourished in his voice as we walked up the steps. “I can protect myself.” “Not if you can’t see them,” I argued. Aiden suddenly stopped and pulled me into his chest. “Relax, okay. We go in and make an assessment of the area. You can see what we’re dealing with. If it’s too much to handle, we’ll just come back outside and wait for Chelsea. Deal?” “Deal,” I whispered, glancing up at him from underneath my lashes.
