This morning, I have a little time for some Oats & Philosophy... My question to myself this morning was, What qualifications do I have to know God? Over the past 40 years, I have had endless arguments, conversations, debates, discussions...whatever you want to call them...in regards to whether God exists or not. A pretty deep and heavy subject matter to be discussing at 4:00 am in a bar after a gig. (Although, that was not the only forum these discussions took place.) Im always amazed, how certain individuals I meet are genuinely convinced of the existence of God and yet others, truly believe He does not exist. (Although, sometimes we are in denial of something because we are afraid of the consequences. If I believe in the existence of God, I will have to serve and/or suffer for my sins.) Bob Dylan said, It may be the devil, or it may be the Lord, but youre gonna have to serve somebody. Familiar with the quote from Shakespeares Julius Caesar? The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves, that we are underlings. Maybe...just maybe, WE are not qualified to KNOW God. Maybe it is OUR fault that God does not make Himself known to us. Maybe it is our own desire to be put in the dark and be covered over and denied the ability to know or understand the concept of Gods existence. Going on the premise that God is Our Heavenly Father and he provides us with what we need and want...just maybe, He lets us forget about Him if that is what we want. Get me? BUT, on the other hand...as soon as we take one step in His direction and make an inkling of an effort to want to try and believe in the existence of a Supreme Controller, Creator, Superior Being...He will take 1000 steps towards us. It is said that for those who believe in God, they can see His work, His glory in ALL creation. In the smile of a newborn baby...in the existence of the cosmos...in a raging river...in all of nature...in a good deed witnessed at the supermarket. BUT, why not be able to SEE God physically and in person? Hence, my question...What qualifications do I have to know God? As His children, His flock, His devotees...we are all His creation...should we not be allowed to see Him? Consider Gods position in all of this... Compare Gods status to that of oh, lets take for instance, the Mayor of New York. Can you easily arrange to have a meeting with him? How about the President of the United States? Could you invite him over to dinner one night perhaps to discuss the National Deficit? The answer is NO. BUT, there ARE certain individuals who are qualified to meet and speak with these leaders of men. NO? So...these leaders of men are in charge of specific boundaries / jurisdiction of power & control. So then, what of a person who is in charge of not only the city you live in, or the country, or the planet, or the galaxy...??? Get where Im goin with this? Just maybe, the fact that you are an atheist, non-believer, agnostic, on-the-fence or whatever, is your OWN self-imposed life sentence.
