This morning was a fantastic one to be in the woods. I was in my stand by 0630 after a 20 minute jaunt across the winter wheat field. The stillness and quite of the morning was interrupted by the rat a tat tapping of a few woodpeckers. Ive never studied Morse Code but Im fairly confident they were saying its 23 f****** degrees out here....WTF! As the sun began to warm the tops of the trees across the field from me I began to hear a few turkey starting to chat, put....put..put. Then a few more joined the chorus from around the field. At 0735 I watched the first two birds come down from their roost and heard several more fly down. I thought to myself wow that sounds like a lot of birds! by 0815 the birds were coming into the field....and the kept coming! All told 30 birds made up this massive flock. All were big birds (15+ LBS) and the sight was just awesome! As the turkey milled about the 3 button bucks that have decided to call the area around my tree stand home also had a go at a quick bite in the field before they crossed to the opposite side. As I said a great morning! At 0945 I decided to go download my trail cam pictures and it would appear that November 8th at 0719 would have been a much, much better morning!
